Can you tell us more about your PC? (Brand & Model) What other Operating Systems are installed? Hard disk size and if you know how many partitions you are trying to create. You say you have a Gnome LiveCD. Does it boot and run Gnome OK, before you do any installing?
GA-MA790GP-UD4H, appears to have built-in video. My suggestion is to remove your ATI video card and switch to built-in video until you get openSUSE installed. Make sure you add the nomodeset kernel load option to openSUSE before you put the ATI card back in.
You should look at this document before proceeding on…
In general, ATI users have more issues getting their PC’s running for some reason. It is one of the reasons I have switched to nVidia, though ATI does have Linux special drivers, if you can just get openSUSE installed. I have the Gigabyte GA790XTA-UD4 and it works great with openSUSE and nVidia.
My built-in card is an ATI as well, won’t that cause the same problem?
I’m aware that Nvidia makes better drivers, both on windows and on linux, but I was on a budget,so I went with ATI
Not all ATI chips cause the computer install to fail. I think it is worth a try to see if it would make any difference. If you do not feel comfortable with removing the video card, then do not do it. Always turn off and remove the power plug before removing or inserting adapter cards. New PC’s are “always on” inside and so the power plug must be removed or a real power switch on the power supply turned off. Also, PCIE video cards have a latch of some sort holding the back end of the card firmly into the socket. This must be mechanically released before the video card will come out. I do this kind of thing all of the time and so it seems second nature to me, but I sometimes forget that is not so with everyone. Let me know what you are thinking.

You could try installing 11.2, I think it doesn’t have that particular issue.
However, your problem is grub, not video. It will not help.
