I am installing from the DVD (KDE3.5 option). Everything was going ok until the saving bootloader configuration phase where it has been stuck for 10 mins.
Is there a way to recover without going through the whole install process again?

This should not happen. Plus, I do not think “save the bootloader” is the last part of the install. Hence I think you should re-install.
IMHO possibilities are:
a. your hard drive has a physical problem in the MBR, or
b. your hard drive is a type that is not easily recognizable by this part of the yast installer process, or
c. there is a problem with your DVD reader’s capability to reliably read the DVD, or
d. there is a problem with the DVD.
wrt item-d, did you do the media check on the DVD before installing? (I think its an option < not sure > ).
Note when burning a DVD you should burn at your slowest speed possible to the highest quality media you can find.
IMHO you should address item(d) [ie boot and do the media check on the DVD] and then if it passes the media check, do a re-install. This time if you have the same problem, try to see if there is an error message. Maybe try to access one of the secondary screens with <CTRL><F1> or <CTRL><F2> or <CTRL><F3> (not sure which). … they may have an error message giving you some information as to what happened.
