We get a lot of people saying that the installer refuses to let them alter the partitions, because they haven’t clicked on ‘Create partition setup’. Perhaps it could be named better.
I get the feeling lots of people see ‘Create partition…’ and think they’re being asked if they want to repartition, which they don’t.
Not sure though. I would personally go for something like “Select partitions manually”.
I will put it on openFATE, if there’s something of a consensus that it’s a problem.
Hoping we might be able to decide on something else to call it as well… I like Microchip’s suggestion, but am slightly concerned that it sounds like a separate stage, rather than a continuation of the installation process if you see what I mean.
It needs to be something that implies that you can partition, or manually select partitions.
Agreed, but the problem is it isn’t just for ‘managing partitions’ - it’s also for continuing the installation, and I’m not sure ‘Manage partitions’ implies that strongly enough.
I think. If I remember correctly. I’m going to create myself an installation medium, and write down precisely what it says…
I don’t recall exactly the installer layout when it comes to partition questions, but I think it’ll be better to put both creation and setup of existing partitions into one area, thus requiring only one button to push (or whatever) we can call “Manage Partitions”
Not optimal, IMHO. The word Create alone will confuse n00bs as they’ll think about creating partitions, not managing existing ones like assigning mount points and such. Still a bit confusing from perspective of a n00b
I also think it should be renamed. The first 2-3 times when i installed openSUSE i always clicked on the wrong button. I think if there are two options they should be something like “Change partition setup” and “New partition setup”. If the installer is changed to only one option it should “Manage partitions” IMO.
