Installer paradox?

Hi, I just barely installed openSuse KDE 4.0 on my laptop from the download section, and I currently can’t connect wirelessly and don’t have an ethernet cord.
I want to install programs, but to do that, I need a compiler. I download gcc, which is ironic, because I have the source… how would I go about installing gcc if I don’t yet have access to the “make” command?

are you sure you need the source? what do you want to install that is
not in the SUSE repository? (not that everything is, but there is a LOT)
