Installer for openSuse 11.3 KDE hangs

OK i got a laptop hp compaq 715 laptop, and as soon as i enter cd with openSuse and reboot, everything stops with the first screen (before it even loads the basic menu). I only see “Press the ESC key for startup menu” with the big COMPAQ sign.
I can hear that cd is working, but after half an hour nothing is happening.

I checked the cd on my desktop and it is fine.
Just to be sure i downloaded another copy (this time from the torrent link)…and again, situation was the same.
My laptop works 100%, cause i have win 7 and ubuntu 10.04 on it, and i have installed them without problems.

Is it something wrong with the KDE live disk?

Any help would be appreciated.

hi there,

i just installed my thinkpad via the kde live cd and it works.
I think the compaq should have an option where to boot from at the first page, so you could try taking the option (F8 mostly i guess) and when you are ath the menu you could insert the cd and boot,
if the laptop hangs at “Press the…” it seems to be an issue with your dvd drive i think. Cause i think the “ISOLINUX…” should definitly show up, evenif there would be an issue with the kde live system.

Thanks for the quick answer,
I don’t think it’s something wrong with my DVD reader, cause its fairly new, and this is the first disk I’m having trouble with. I’ve read maybe 30-40 disks so far, and i had 100% percent success with it. And now, two disks with openSuse 11.3, and they both hang. I don’t know what is wrong, but win7 or ubuntu haven’t had any issues with my computer, so i am confident that the error is not on my part.

PS When i enter win7 or ubuntu i can copy that DVD on my hard drive with no problems, my DVD reader doesn’t have any problems reading it.

I tried entering boot menu option, and succeeded, but again, as soon as I’ve entered the CD, the computer became frozen.

okay, strange behaviour of course,
so it would be interesting if it works with the dvd version,
which dont solve the livecd issue, i know

sorry no idea

I had the same issue on one of my machines. For me it would hang before it even started the installer or liveCD image!
My thinkpad installed without any issues. My other craptastic took a bit more. I downloaded the NETINSTALL ISO and used that. It worked well!
