Hi. I’ll start by saying I’m new to Linux. I am having a problem with my touch-pad on my Dell Inspiron 1525. It needs to be adjusted for speed and it starts scrolling unexpectedly. I understand I need to install a driver for it but don’t know how. The problem I see with Linux is that it’s not easy to install software for new users. I have ran into a few One click Installs and managed to work them out quite easily. Usually the documentation you find online to install programs assumes the end user knows how to install. I need to know how to install the touch-pad driver from start to finish and all steps in between. Any help would be appreciated.
If you can not find it there (may not for a specialty driver) you need to read the readme file in the package. It may require you to compile from source. That may sound hard but it normally means typing 3 lines. But full instructions should be in the readme file found in the .gz file and if you do not understand it please ask here. Someone will help you through the process.
BTW in most cases installing software is easier then in Windows. just do it in Yast.
It sounds like your touch pad is working just fine, you just need to change some of the settings for it. Yast-Hardware-Mouse should have the settings you are looking for.
