Installation SSD fault on USB-C 4

I installed 15.6 on an external SSD connected to a laptop vi USB-C 4
after a few hours the system repeatedly crashes showing for example in the terminal I/O errors which I interpret as disk access failing. after reboot the system is running again for a few hours. this occurs with two different SSDs.
attaching the disk not to the USB-C 4 port, but to a USB-A port seems(!) to be more stable.

running os 15.5 on an SSD connected to the USB-A port of that laptop had been running stable.

is there a way to find out what is causing the problem.?

  • the SSD?
  • the USB-C 4 port of the laptop?
  • a driver os os 15.6?
  • …??

Examine dmesg and journals.

Possibly issues with USB 4 chip.
Search for new firmware for USB 4 chip and new BIOS for laptop.

OFC, without any info about hw I can only guess.
