Ok, I really need some help here!
I tried to install OpenSuse 11.3 on my brand new pc, which already had Windows 7 proffessional in it, and I went step by step through the installation without changing anything. It didn’t work. I tried for a second time and this error message kept popping up:
“Creating device modes with udev
2.0436224] [drm: i915_diver_load]ERRORDetected broken BIOS with 262140/2644kb of video memory stolen.
2.0436224] [drm: i915_diver_load]ERRORDisabling GEM(try reducing stolen memory or updating the BIOS to fix)”
And then a lot of letters and numbers wich make no sense to me. Now the only way I can initiate OpenSuse is with the OSuse boot dvd and on failsafe mode.
What do I have to do? I have no idea!
Looks like there is a problem with the BIOS on that machine. Did yo try reducing the video memory or see if there is a BIOS update available?
With the detail given I can’t tell if this is useful or not,[Bug 15469] [Intel Graphics HD] Kernel panic on boot with certain BIOS o](http://www.mail-archive.com/dri-devel@lists.sourceforge.net/msg49828.html) but you could read Through this thread.
Do you have an empty extended partition to install openSUSE 11.3?
Got any pretty pictures of the your new PCs hard drive?
Ok, it works! I set the “share memory” to 128 and it boots just fine.
Thanks everyone!
It’s funny how the solution always make you feel stupid.lol!
Not always but often the solution is in the error message. Something you seldom see in the Windoz world
