Installation Problem

Hello,

I have the following problem with my openSUSE 11.1 installation.
I use the Gnome liveCD and everything goes fine. My hardware is recognized, xserver starts normal and network manager works great. I continue with the installation proccess and there is no fault. After the first reboot (during installation) the systems runs perfectly and it seems that there is no problem.

Everything is ok until i shut down the pc. When i start again my pc, it ends up at a black screen.

My first thought was that there was something wrong with the installation, so i repeated it with a DVD media instead of the Gnome LiveCD. The same thing happens again… When i start up my pc it ends up in a black screen.

My second thought was that there was something wrong with the xserver but when i moved to console mode (Cntr-Alt-F1) i found that runlevel 5 has been reached without any obvious error (there was the login prompt).

  • I logged in with the root account.
  • I moved to run level 3 and then back to run level 5 (init 3 - init 5).
Magically the xserver starts and everything is as it should be from the beginning.

The same story happens whenever i start my pc.

Any ideas???

1st thing 1st, which graphic card do you have?

Yes you have right. My hardware profile is

CPU : AMD Phenom 9650 Quad-Core Proceccor
Graphic Card : ATI Radeon HD 3200
Memory : 4GB.

May this would help.
ATI - openSUSE

Thanks for the quick reply but i am afraid installing fglrx
will not solve my problem. I have tried installing fglrx some time ago and the result was to crash X-server (at that time i used KDE).

I noticed that during start up it says that it is skipping services in runlevel 5.
So I guess my problem is somewhere there.

Well i’ll try again the fglrx and hope i will be lucky…

thanks
