Installation/Partitioning Issues

Hey everyone,

Before I start, I just want to say that this is the first thim in this millenium that I’ve installed OpenSuse, so my Linux skills are not really up to par.

I downloaded 11.1 (11.2 comes out tomorrow, so I’m not sure if I’ll continue with this setup or just go for a clean 11.2 install later…), the installation environment seems to load fine until it comes time for the actual install. I keep getting a “Error -3008 Device or resource was is use” message. After a look around on the net and in the help files, I came to the conclusion that this was due to a filthy Windows Vista partition on the drive, so I got rid of this and tried again.

The error message was still being displayed and even going through the expert partitioning section in the “Repair System” DVD option. Now I’ve got 2 HDD’s in a mirrored RAID, adding in extra drivers did not work, however removing the RAID on the motherboard corrected this issue.

Up until this point, I thought it was strange that in the expert partitioning section that there were entries under the RAID section, as I figured that the RAID controller on the mobo would handle this, but being the linux noob that I am, decided that it must be there for a reason.

After much configuration changing, the system is running through the installation, however, after re-creating the RAID in the BIOS, booting to the installation DVD and running the installation setup, there are no partitions under the devices in the “Hard Drive” area, but there is a “RAID wrapper” that is still under the “Hard Drive” section, but this sits at the same level as the hard drive devices, if that makes sense…

Anyway, I might try a different setup later tonight and even 11.2 tomorrow, but I was just wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem or knows what might cause this?
