installation of "broadband cleint"

My broadband service provider requires an installation of a software called “sify broadband client” for authentication purpose. i have tried to install but it is giving error messages with " installation YAST"

"cannot access installation media …

http://downloadopensuse.org/repositories…"

i have opensuse 11.3 with gnome desktop …

plz advice

instruction given in their web site is as follows

  1. Installation on RPM Supported System

    a. Prerequisite for Linux client

Sify Broadband client for Linux OS works only on windows Manager with any desktop

Sify Broadband client for Linux OS requires openssl0.9.7c or later.

If your system has lower version of openssl or openssl is not intsall, Click here to download openssl0.9.7-0.9.7c

    b. Download Broadband Client:

Click here to download Sify Broadband Client for Linux OS

    c. Installation Steps:

Note: Plz do not remove the existing lower version of openssl which will affect other programs.

         rpm -ivh openssl 0.9.7-0.9.7c-52922cl.i386.rpm

         rpm -ivh sify_bband-3.0-0.i586.rpm

Tell them to take a Hike
Get yourself a proper router and demand to have you connection info from your ISP

is there any way to by pass connection with opensuse repository and install the software ?

This question I don’t understand

well …Yast is asking for a connection opensuse.org …not sure exactly why ? probably to access installation media, that is what error message says …

Do you actually have an internet connection on this machine?
Eg; Can you browser the web: Yes or No?

this is a wondows system (from which am posting )…yes i have connection here …it is a wired connection without a router …now i am configuring the linux system

Does the Linux machine not have a connection?

(wondows is of no concern to me)

No …presently not …i have one connection which i share between two machines …now i am having the connection with a windows system. when i finish installing s/w in linux then I shall transfer the connection there

The instructions say nothing about YaST, so why are you using YaST?

The instructions appear to provide command line instructions. Please cut
and paste the resulats of your entire command-line session so we can see
what it is that you are doing and what is going wrong.

Cheers, Dave

@dave

i am not experienced command line user …when i clicked on the set up file …autometically Yast opened up

@dave

instructions does not give any clue about how to install using command line

do NOT download and try to install theirs…

instead open YaST, search for openss10 and see, i bet you already have
10.9.8 installed, if not then install it

download the client to a place on your system you can find…

in a terminal,

  • navigate to the place where you downloaded the rpm to

  • copy and past the rpm command into the terminal and press enter

  • maybe you are asked to supply a root password, do so if asked…

> rpm -ivh sify_bband-3.0-0.i586.rpm

  • when all activity ends, copy and paste the above in the terminal and
    press enter

  • maybe you are asked to supply a root password, do so if asked…

  • after everything is installed you are on your own to figure out how
to use it–surely, somewhere there will be a readme file, or
    instructions in /usr/share/doc/ something

or on the providers web site??

come back!

i have a openssl version 1.0.0-5.4 …so how will a tha command change …especially the last part “52922cl.rpm”

The openSUSE openssl is newer than the openssl 0.9.7-0.9.7c-52922cl.i386.rpm that your ISP requires, so you shouldn’t need that rpm.
