Installation not detecting DVD

Hey,

When I try to install OpenSuSe with the installation cd (11.0 downloaded with torrenting) I can boot to that first screen, and I select installation. Soon after this a linux kernel screen pops up, and asks me to make sure the CD is in the drive. But of course it already is. So does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

BTW, I checked the Md5 sum and burned at a low speed with high quality discs.

Thanks
Andrew

As you stated you can boot to the firts boot screen so the DVD drive is detected.
My guess is that media is still not correct even tough MDcheck is OK
Burn a CD OR DVD at the recommend Speed of the manufacture of the CD OR DVD if possible

Hi
Is your chipset sis? Try the following option at the boot screen before
you start the install;

insmod=ide-generic

Hi, I’ve got exactly th same problem and my laptop is Asus B50A with Intel chipset.

I ran into the same problem. what I did was copy the dvd to a directory on the windows partition. and when i get the message to insert cd 1, i hit back until i get to the screen that gives you the options of cd-rom, network, or harddisk. i select hard disk and it shows me the drives on my computer. IE: hda1, hda5, etc… I selected the proper drive and it brings up a box where you enter the path. type in the unix path not windows. in my case it was ‘/downloads/linux’. the install proceeded from the windows partition.

Nice tip:)

Just got a new Asus M50vm laptop and had the same issue with Suse 11.1 install. If I put ide controller to ‘compatible’ mode, Suse loads fine. Vista blue screens however. Wanted to keep around in case I dork my Suse somehow:O. Good idea to copy to hdd partition first. Seems like driver puts CD/DVD in la la land after so long.
