Installation freezes

Hi,
I’ve been trying to install openSUSE 11.1 but the installation just freezes at “loading basic drivers”.
I’ve tried with both 32-bit and 64-bit versions but get the same result. Tried to booth with no ACPI also but nil.

I have Ubuntu 9.04 installed in the AMD64 version (together with WinXP 64-bit) and that installation went smooth like silk
but I thought that I’d like to try openSUSE to see if it was something for me but it seems like I have to stick to Ubuntu.

Anyone have a solution on this?

Computer is:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 with 2Gb RAM
ATI Radeon x1950 Pro graphics
2 HD’s (one for Win and one for Linux)
Logitech Wireless Keyboard and Mouse

Did you try DVD/CD install?
Did you do a media check?

Yes, I downloaded the .iso-file and burnt it on a DVD from which I tried to install.
Yes, I run the mediacheck from the first installationscreen with no errors returned.

My Ubuntu 64-bit took about 35-40min to install, updates included, and now I’ve spent
over 1 hour and can’t even get the installation to start OK so I’m quite puzzled.

boot from a Live CD and use that (understanding it will run faster
from a hard drive) to see if openSUSE is something for you!

or, plop a VM into your Ubuntu and run an iso image of openSUSE…

or ??

Now I’m back again and running openSUSE 11.1 x86_64 with KDE4!

Thank you for the suggestion in using a live-cd - IT WORKED!

I tried first with installing the old 10.3 x86_64 which took 2,5 hours!!! >:(
It did not help so I downloaded the live-cd .iso, burnt it and it started slow but OK so I installed from there.
It took some time but now everything seems to work out fine!

good…congratulations on having the courage and persistence to be
successful…
