Whenever we install softwares / programs using YAST tool in which directory does it’s files gets installed ? i.e. where can i find the folders of Open Office / VLC / and other programs ?
In which folders programs should be installed if i have to install them manually ?
I think geoffros answer is correct but a bit to simple. A product is normaly spread among different places in the directory tree, as good as according to the practices. That means e.g. that executables (the ones you call directly, but there may be other ones) go to /usr/bin/, configiration files to /etc/, siles may go to /var/, etc.
Also a implementot=r mmay seem fit to put thing under /opt or /usr/local/. There are no fixed rules, only ‘ways to do this’.
When you go to YaST > Software > software management and select several packages, you can by choosing the tab Files provided (or an expression like that) see where that particular product installs things. Thus you can as much examples as you like.
