manjuptm, you really need to learn about the basics, so read this, it will help you:
YaST/Modules/Software Management - openSUSE
Before installing, activate the most important repositories in YaST → Software → Software-Repositories - you will need oss, non-oss, update and packman (that will be enough for now).
Sorry for jumpin in… but are we sure this is openSUSE?
I normally get a > and not a $ as a console user? (Also the fact that zypper is not found) Or is that just me?
