Hello, is it possible to install opensuse 11 on a ntfs partition in the same way that wubi installs ubuntu?
Thank you.
Not as far as I know. If you are sheepish about installing, I would go the live-cd route.
Installing to ntfs would lose several of the advantages of Linux - among them a dedicated swap partition and a superior journalled file system. Wubi is really just an alternative to a live CD.

One day I have to try that one. It’s kind of between a Live CD and a regular install, is that correct?
Uwe
Its like this, the wubi installer creates 2 big files that acts like a ext3 partition & a swap partition,on my current ubuntu installation they look like this:
-root.disk ~8GB
-swap.disk ~1GB
It doesn’t run within windows.
It’s similar to Topologilinux if you know it.
Wubi is an installer to a loop device, in this case the virtual disk file. A boot sector is created and a pointer added to boot.ini so that 'buntu can be selected for boot. So it is a dual-boot setup; one OS is not running atop another. The filesystem resides within the virtual disk, similar to qemu and virtual machines. The code is specific to the Debian installer, and set up to only handle specific Ubuntu releases. It’s main advantage appears to be eliminating the need for a separate partition.
AFAIK there is not equivalent for openSUSE. It is on the wish list.
By the way, I didn’t mean to imply that something similar cannot be done with openSUSE. There are number of methods of installing openSUSE and the tools are avail to do something similar. However, these are all advanced. And Wubi has the distinction of being wrapped in a Windows executable shell; it is clearly targeted at new Windows users. So in this respect primarily, there is (again, AFAIK) no counterpart in openSUSE.
- mingus725,
thanks! The only benefit I see is that users don’t have to mess with partitions then. Not sure if it is worth the effort
Uwe
Thanks for all the info If it’s on the wish list i`ll wait until it comes true
