Hi everyone!

and also…
How can i play divx/Xvid videos in openSUSE? players came with openSUSE don’t support for those formats.

Welcome to OpenSUSE!

The easiest way to get the “restricted” codecs installed is to add the “packman” repository using YAST. Once the repo is added, just add xvid using the “install software” app and it should grab the dependencies you need. (Caution: do not add the packman repo and the vlc repo at the same time, as they conflict with each other.)

May I ask why you need to “install” a tar.gz file? It’s really just like a zip file containing source code, and if you’re really new to linux you should probably install software through YAST instead of trying to compile it from the source code in a tar.gz file. (At least until you’re a bit more familiar with things.)

Multi-media and Restricted Format Installation Guide - openSUSE Forums

extract tar.gz first with file roller or ark or go to konsole and type;

tar -xvzf filename.tar.gz

if your tar.gz’s file in /home, type in your konsole cd /home/namefile.tar.gz
but it depends where you put the file is :slight_smile:
