Hi all,
i have Open Suse Linux Ent Server 11.4 and i want to monitor it through Microsoft SCOM 2007 R2 Server…when i run discovery for SUse it fails and gets error"Cant detect OS type & Version" because it is un-supported by MS.
but i have heard that we can monitor it by changing the /etc/SuSE-release file …
can somebody guide me how it can be modified so that SCOM 2007 R2 will able to detect OpenSuseLinux 11.4…
Thanks

There is nothing like a openSUSE Enterprise Server, you have either openSUSE
or you have SuSE Enterprise Server. The first one is a community driven
linux (supported by Novell), the second one is a commercial edition sold by
Novell.
Changing the /etc/SuSE-release file in an openSUSE system, you can fake that
it reports its version as beeing an Enterprise Server (I used that in the
past to be able to install Oracle without complaints from the installer).
If you are after something like that change the content to
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 (x86_64)
VERSION=11
If you have 32 bit use i586 instead of x86_64.
This is from memory so you have to check if there is no typo in it.

Not really since i do not know the software. Can it be that it is something
as simple as a firewall problem.
Did you disable the firewall in the suse system (just for testing)?
