Install rlogin server on SuSE10.1 Enterprise Server

Hi SuSE fan

Can someone guide me how to install rlogin server (rsh-server) on SuSE10.1 Enterprise Server?

i can’t find “rsh-server” in the CDs or FTP site

(/suse/i586/rsh-server-0.17-573.2.i586.rpm)

ftp://ftp.uk.linux.org/pub/linux/Networking/netkit/

I know its not secure but still…

Thanks in Advance,
Bar

Is there some reason you cannot use SSH, which is there, enabled by
default, and secure?

Good luck.

This Server uses a lot of pepole in our large company and you can’t just tell everyone that from now we use only SSH (we are talking about users that work a lot of years and they use rlogin on a daily basis) beside its a decision that our IT Team shuold take and not me

Anyone can please point me to rsh-server-0.17-573.2.i586.rpm?

tnx

First, no, I don’t know where rsh-server is, but not finding it is
probably a good thing.

It’s probably time to bring it up with the IT team, then. Everybody has
some responsibility regarding security. Assuming this is your system
and you are going to enable ‘rsh’ on it then this is your
responsibility. SSH is at least as easy as rsh, a lot more functional,
and secure. You also have the full suit of things like file copy, via
scp or sftp, tunneling of applications, etc. All of this happens
without an impact to security or the addition of more software than your
machine comes with already. SSH has been around long enough that every
OS that I’ve heard of has clients for it, and all of those but one come
with an SSH client built in. Worst-case scenario you could alias ‘rsh’
to ‘ssh’ and have it work almost the exact same way. Or… you can
send usernames/passwords/data over the wire in the clear ready to be
picked up by anybody who happens to be sniffing or who is intentionally
looking.

Good luck.
