Install Over Another Distribution?

Hi, everyone.

After years of trying and giving up, I was finally able to get a Linux distribution working on my PC. It happens to be Linux Mint, and I am quite impressed.

However, I recently downloaded OpenSUSE Live and booted it up, and it worked equally well. I would like to install it and try it out more fully, especially since Novell and openSUSE are somewhat local for me.

Can I install over the top of my Linux Mint installation and retain my data and applications? Or would I need to back up and uninstall first?

Thanks in advance…

Mint is ububtu really. And by default does not normally create a seperate /home partition.

If you know you have a separate /home - fine. Yes install suse and keep /home

Otherwise - You’ll have to backup. Suse uses the default of creating a /home - which BTW you can do in Mint/Ubuntu

If you are not sure, open a terminal, go su and give us

fdisk -l
