I am trying to install openSUSE as a desktop package on Kubuntu, I have been able to install Ubuntu, Xubuntu, and E17. This gives me the freedom to be able to learn on a number of distro’s before deciding which one is right for me.
Is this possible with openSUSE? and if so how do I do it?
openSUSE is not a desktop package, it’s a distinct distro.
You are able to switch between GNOME (Ubuntu), KDE (Kubuntu), XFCE (Xubuntu) and Enlightenment (E17) because they all share a common base. openSUSE is a separate distro. You can also have multiple desktop environments on openSUSE: KDE 3+4, GNOME, XFCE, and I believe there is a 3rd party Enlightenment package set.
So you would at the very least need a separate partition for openSUSE.
Or a VM under Ubuntu, which would degrade performance but at least be an
option.
Good luck.
