I have a 6GB drive on a new motherboard with a 6GB SATA port and it works fine with openSUSE 11.4. You did not say which version of openSUSE you are trying to use and we normally suggest you use the most recent version which is 11.4. We also suggest you download and boot from a KDE or GNOME LiveCD Boot disk which can help tell if any of your hardware might have an issue when using opoenSUSE 11.4, it is what I would suggest. Tell us a lot more about your hardware (CPU, motherboard chipset, brand and model) as well as the openSUSE version and if 32 or 64 bit.
Thank You,

Yes, the OP did! 11.4 is quite clear above!

This is the key. There are a number of issues with newish chipsets and
fixes in more recent kernels.
The first thing I would do is to try to run the latest knoppix. If that
runs, then the problem is that you need a more recent kernel. If not,
there’s some deeper problem.
Either way, come back with hardware details and whether or not knoppix runs.
Thanks for replies.
My motherboard is Asus p7h55-m USB3 and chipset is H55 Express Chipset.
I will try Knoppix.
Thank You.
