Having a different CPU typically does not cause problems, unless it is the support chipset that is on the motherboard.

I recommend you download an openSUSE-11.1 and 11.2 liveCD (of your choice) and try and boot to those liveCDs to get a rough assessment as to how easy or difficult an install will be. Note that after such a check, when it comes to install, a DVD install will be faster than a CD install.
