Install menu failure on boot off DVD V11.1

SUSE Linux test system - Suse V11.1 DVD install.
System is an old 600mhz Pentium III 512K ram 20gig HD, nvidia graphics card, NIC 3c905b. Boot DVD menu background appears, then menu and diagnostic box in upper left corner appear at the same time. Box is devided into three sections Data(upper left), Prog (Upper right_, and bottom section. The upper two appear to list memory locations like" 0: 9648b. a", and the bottom states “err f”
“ip 6792: 55.7”
Touching any key results in menu closing to a boot: prompt with nocommand available that I can find. Has anyone seen this? >:(

Looks like this OS is well supported by the SUSE community. At least I get answers from SUN.

add these boot options to the argument at boot

edd=off acpi=off

see if that helps

Did you try to boot in text mode?
512k memory might be a limit to work in graphic mode.:frowning:

Hold Shift on the keyboard during booting (or, if you come to that point: Hit F3 at the boot screen and select text mode) and tell us what happens.

The machine started with a 32mg video card and I changed it out to a 64mg card. That wasn’t the problem, but the non graphics mode was the key to a solution. I had two PC’s I was working with and got the same results from both. In text mode I was able to run the firmware Diag’s. The first scan on both machines showed the 15mg-16mg OS2 memory hole enabled. Turning it off and rescanning showed a problem at the 15mg-16mg memory hole, but now the machines booted to the install YAST and installed fine all hardware and drivers working correctly. I loaded one to GNOME and the other to KDE. Thanks to the Shift key tip.
