Install media

I have not been able to download the latest iso for Tumbleweed. In another thread, it was said to “just wait” until the latest version is populated. I have an old version of Tumbleweed on a dvd and also a net-install dvd. Since either version will download current files to install, do I need to get a newer version?

Also, can I just copy one of these disks to a usb drive since the iso was expanded when I burned it to the dvd?

I am not understanding this at all.

There should not be any difficulty downloading the latest iso. You have not indicated what problems you had.

Yes, you can try installing with an older iso. But the older the iso, the more likely that you will run into problems.

Yes, you can copy an iso to a USB drive. But copy to the raw drive, not to a partition or file system on that drive. It is probably best to use one of the suggested for creating a USB installer. Or use “dd” for the copy.

I just experienced this same problem.
The default link http://download.opensuse.org/tumbleweed/iso/openSUSE-Tumbleweed-NET-x86_64-Current.iso
downloaded a garbage file.

I specified a mirror and downloaded successfully.

Thank you. That worked. I selected “Download file from preferred mirror” and the download began immediately. I didn’t even notice it began because I was waiting to be asked which was my preferred mirror!
