I have a school/work desktop that is provided for me. It’s completely locked down, so I can only use it for stupid **** like office / web browsing. I would like to buy an external hard drive, then install linux to it and then boot to it by changing the boot options to boot from USB (in the BIOS). What I am concerned about is this: I would like to to do this without altering the school’s C:/ boot drive in any way. (eg don’t install GRUB to C for dual boot) Is there a way to do this, short of unplugging the C:/ drive during installation?
