Install Linux on HP Pavilion a307x

I am trying to install any distribution of Linux with a desktop gui on to aHP Pavilion a307x. So far I have tried Ubuntu, Xubuntu, Kubuntu, Mandrivia, Fedora, openSUSE but all fail when they try loading the login screen, the display goes awal. I have searched around and found no reports of successful install on this make and model. I am wondering if there is a configuration in the BIOS that I can change that will make everything work. I am posting this thread onto other forums, Ubuntu Forums, Fedora Forums, Mandriva Forums, openSUSE Forums, Linux.com Forum, and Linux.org Forums hoping to find someone who knows a solution.

It should work if you use vesa for graphics:
Might be worth trying a boot from the failsafe option?!

If that doesn’t work try, from a cli login, go su and do:

sax2 -r -m 0=vesa

I managed to install Kubuntu 8.04 successfully. I have not tried any other older versions of the operating systems previously attempted. Thanks to those of you who responded.
