Install Issue

I’m trying to migrate from Ubuntu to OpenSUSE but for some reason I can’t get the install to work. I’ve tried installing the
GNOME live CD both from a CD and a USB but after I select installation it goes to the loading screen for a few seconds and
then the screen goes black and it stays like that till I reboot. Is it a problem with my hardware or something or did
something miss-write when I burned the CD/USB?

There are some things you can check.

  • Did you run an md5sum check on the downloaded iso file and compare that to the md5sum posted on the openSUSE web site ? Were they the same ?
  • Did you burn the .iso file to a +R or -R CD (not to an RW) at the slowest speed your burner allows to high quality media (ie not some bargain basement CD no-name brand special) ?
  • Did you try the mediacheck on the openSUSE liveCD ? Did it pass that check ?
  • Did you try booting the liveCD selecting the SafeSettings ?
  • In addition to trying “SafeSettings” you can also try different boot codes, such as ‘nomodeset’ or ‘x11failsafe’, where these boot codes do different things to help a PC boot. For example on openSUSE-11.4 with my Radeon HD3450 graphics, I need to use the ‘nomodeset’ boot code to work around a bug in intird in handling that graphic hardware.

If you have no further success you could post the details of your hardware: ie CPU, RAM, EXACT details on graphic card , etc …

Is it a problem with my hardware or something

could be BUT my crystal ball fell and broke so i can not “read your mind”

What is your hardware ?
and i am assuming that it is opensuse 11.4 but is it 32 bit or 64 bit ?

You did this?
