Install Freezes at 31%

Version 12.1

While ‘installing packages’, counting down from 2GB worth of packages. Now stuck on 1,986 and 31% along the progress bar. Hard disk light fully on, mouse/keyboard not frozen. Mouse pointer has revolving ‘busy’ disk moving. Been waiting an hour. Hard disk previously worked with other distributions of Linux as well as Windows Vista.

My system board: MSI UK – Mainboard - G41M-P28

Using an NVidia Corp. NV17GL [Quadro NVS] card, which I removed and used the integral VGA - same problem.

Any ideas as to how I can get past 31%?

Thanks in advance.

start by making sure your install media is good, boot from it and do
this: http://tinyurl.com/3qde66h

if you get one error, that is too many…

if the disk is good then ???

You’re correct!!

Got a failure during check. Also, tried to copy the iso file to a usb just for an additional check and that failed also. Now downloading a fresh iso for burning onto a fresh DVD.

Thanks

before burning to desk make absolutely sure the iso is 100%
correct…on the download page is a link to “Download Help” and on that
page you can learn how to check the iso with both md5 and sha1
checksums…choose either one, and test the iso’s md5sum or sha1sum
against the sum giving by the download server (on the download page)…

if there is any error, do not burn…instead repair it (easy to do with
a torrent or . . . read the download help!)

Or download via metalinks. This procedure will do the checksum
automatically and redownload the wrong fragments if necesary, and at top speed.

Also explained at that same help page.

I’ve downloaded openSUSE-12.1-DVD-i586.iso.meta4 and have Orbit downloader installed but don’t know how to download the file. What’s the URL I need to input into Orbit?

I have not tried orbit, I have used DownThemAll! with FF. You give them the
url to the meta4 file, and it automatically downloads the ISO file instead.
