Install formatting issue

I am new to Linux, and new to Suse. I have recently installed a dual boot of XP and Suse 10.2 onto my Acer Travelmate C300. I could not get the wireless to work. So after screwing around for a couple of days I tapped out and gave up. I downloaded and installed Suse 11.1. It was easy to do, so kudos for that. But then I downloaded some rpms trying to get a working DVD/Cd codec. Then I wanted to use some other codecs. So I decided to reinstall the Suse because it seemed easier than trying to figure out how to find and uninstall the rpms I downloaded. I have no idea how that works yet.
Ok, so moving on…I took my boot utility and completely wiped out my Linux partition with one pass wipeout or something like that. So now I have a partition of NTFS with windows and a completely raw partition on my single drive. I started the suse install and it loads fine. When I try to do install and I get to the partitioning section and Suse only sees the total drive size and the NTFS drive size. It wont see the drive space I partitioned for the suse install. I tried to do a custom partition to add the drive space and it wont allow it. Do I need to do some kind of formatting on that partition before Suse can find the partition for its install?? If so, what do I use and how do I do it? Please use lamens terms because I am probably treading into deeper waters than I should. PLEASE HELP!!!
Thanks,
Jeff

I figured it out…run fdisk and format partition, then install is a breeze.
