Hi folks! It has been a mighty long time since I posted here, not because I have become so expert that I no longer need advice, but a) openSuse has been pretty much flawless for years and I have had no need (yay!) And b) My Tumbleweed install broke on update, some months ago and I have, due to idleness been using MSWin10 (boo!) Now! I genuinely do not like MSWin, not for any “political” reasons, I just don’t. I much prefer openSuse with KDE. However, despite having used various suses for 10 years or so, when it broke I did not know how to proceed. I am sure that many of you experts would have had it up and running within minutes… I have not used the install for at least six months. Easy question: Is it possible to “upgrade” an old TW install to LEAP 15.0? Would this likely cure the problem or make it worse? I can’t provide much info right now but would be glad to if anyone would care to assist. I could simply fresh-install over the old install (?) There are no settings or even data which are of life-or-death importance…
Hi there
Does the system boot up?
If you can boot into the system (even just the console [runlevel 3]), then should get a running system with zypper dup, might have to switch to using wicked if desktop was set to use NetworkManager…?
Else a fresh install over the existing partitions (format them too) would be probably be quicker and a better end user experience…
Thank you Malcolm. I could boot to a “rescue mode” But then I did not know how to proceed. Even gathering data to post here would have meant writing down with a pen and paper various arcane details and then writing down links etc… I think that “install over” is probably my best option…
Hi
If only booting to rescue mode, then yes, would be quicker to grab the latest snapshot and install that…
