Install and Use KDE and LXCE environment on openSUSE 11.3

Can i install both and use either KDE or LXCE environment on openSUSE 11.3??

I want to use sometimes KDE and sometimes LXCE environment after installation of openSUSE 11.3. Is this possible, if so how do i change in work environment??

I think the option is available during login… but not sure…

By the way, which one is of the 4 available is the most user friendly GUI and which one is the heaviest on the system???

Yes, you can definitely install both the DEs. Just disable automatic login and you will find the option to select your preferred DE evreytime during login via the session menager option…left bottom corner of the login screen.

Of course you can. KDE (4, 3), gnome, icewm, twm, xfce, fwmn, enlightement… there are may desktops
to try.

Friendly? Try them all and choose which one you like most. What a person finds friendly is not what
some other person accepts.

Heavy? Again, try. Time ago, KDE was the heaviest, followed by gnome, but it has improved a lot
(C++ optimization has a lot to do with it).

It also depends a lot on what apps you use. For example, if you use gnome and kmail, or kde and
evolution, you are in fact loading both kde and gnome… Or, if you load a light desktop and then
load kmail, then you are using a lot of kde on top of the light desktop. Thus, test your usual
applications on your choice of desktops, and choose.

Hint: you can have two or three desktops opened simultaneously. Under gnome and kde, find the entry
for “switch user” (probably under “logout”). But it is not the only method. One in VT7, VT8, VT9…
