instaling patches

I,m Fairly new to this so please bear with me. I have a dvb card and need to install a patch file for it. I have downloaded it and have had no luck trying to install it. It is a genpix update for V4L. How is a patch installed?:\

You’ll have better luck getting a reply if you post in the Install/Boot/Login or Application forums. This forum isn’t for technical support. Good luck.

git.kernel.org - linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git/commit says see:
Genpix Electronics Store - Software Updates (Powered by CubeCart)
Linux:

Genpix 8PSK-to-USB2 basic support is already included into latest Linux kernel. Only QPSK (DVB-s standard) is supported in this basic version. You have to apply patch to be able to use all other modulations.

2007-04-10 - v4l patch is here. Details are in Linux section of DVBN forum.

In a terminal “man patch”

BTW, you may have to reconfig the kernel & turn on the feature; dig into Andrew’s fine howto @ A Frustrated User’s Guide to Linux by Andrew Dorney - openSUSE Forums

PS: open up your download & see if there’s a readme or install.txt.

Hope this helps…
