Instaling errors

Hi all,

I downloaded OpenSuse 11 and wrote it to a cd, but when I tried to boot from the cd on my computer, I got these error messages:
Mounting compressed unified tree
/sbin/init no such file or not executable/ reboot exception: error consoles at ALT-F3/F4/ reboot exception: rebooting in 120 seconds.

Can anyone tell me what those error messages mean and how to fix it? I am completely new to OpenSuse. Please note that I have nothing else on my computer now (no OS’s, nothing). I currently have no internet on my computer.

Thanks for any help.

did you do an md5 checksum before burning the disk ? If you have no other O.S. on your p.c./laptop i’m afraid it doesn’t bode well. You need an O.S. to download & do an md5 checksum if the last download doesn’t work. The next best thing would be, ask a friend to download & do an md5 checksum, then burn

hi Toast (welcome),

before you go any further:

Before you install SuSE 11.0 read this. If you already installed and
it all went sour, read it BEFORE you reinstall, all of it, including
the follow on posts in that thread:

or

and, i also recommend you look through this http://tinyurl.com/5hkyeh
and read those parts that intersect your experience/need…

yes, it will take some time…and save more than it takes…
