Hello friends I am new to world the linux I possess aportatil a Toshiba Portege R100 will not Boot from CD and has no OS and install SUSE11 how can I do to settle with suse Boot Floppy I have a copy on the hard disk partition disk is 40 GB.
You must surely be able to get it to boot from something other than hard drive. Have you checked the BIOS?
Have a look at Installation - openSUSE. If you have a cd drive and not a dvd, the network install works well.
Unfortunately, because of the modern kernel size, there aren’t many linux versions that fit on a floppy.
If you can’t make the CD work, can the laptop boot from a USB stick?
You could use unetbootin. Some people report it works better if you download SUSE inside unetbootin - in other words install unetbootin to a PC, then pick SUSE in the unetbootin options, and it will download for you.
It is possible to install from an image on a hard drive - there are instructions on the wiki, but I don’t know how up to date they are and I think you’d need to install the bootloader separately - the USB is definitely easier if you can do it that way.
