increase volume and improve quality sound

hi, i want to know if it is possible to increase volume, i mean, i use headphones and the volume is at full power but not enough for me…and the sound quality is quite different, (compared with Windows) can i improve it?..if you can help i would appreciate that. thanks

which desktop environment are you using? KDE, GNOME, XFCE etc?

Most sound applications have their own volume controls IN ADDITION to the master volume controlled by your mixer (kmix in KDE – i think its the alsamixergui in gnome?)

first, make sure you have the volume turned up in the sound application you are using, then check your main mixer. SLOWLY turn the volume up so you dont hurt your ears!

hey thx for the reply… i am using the gnome desktop environment… and the volume control for gnome panel is something like Applet 2.24.1 (is that ok?) :shame: and the master volume is turned up (full) but i want moreeee >:)…thx

I have never used that specific volume application, but i suggest you go into the properties or settings of that application and make sure it is showing all the channels (some volume mixers hide channels by default).

there may be something in there that is not turned all the way up. try moving all the sliders up and down to see what changes what…

are you experiencing this problem with only one application? is this problem only happening with your video player, or with a specific file?
Or is it overall, just not as loud? (regardless of the application or file you are playing)

I had the same problem. I was able to fix it by running “gnome-volume-control” and increasing the PCM volume setting to maximum.

This worked for me.

Personally,
I’ve also found that if your player app supports a gstreamer backend, IMO the sound libraries are better (today).

Codecs generally are fundamental to the quality.
