Impression of beta 5.

So I’ve tried openSUSE beta 11.0 / 11.1 beta1, beta2, beta5 in the hopes that my Intel 4965AGN wireless would work.

Beta 1, 2 didn’t do anything… they were pretty much the same to me as openSUSE 11.0. However beta 5 has impressed me, my wireless works! Not to mention my touchpad isn’t configured as 70% of it functioning als vertical scroll anymore… but it’s actually useable now, I even got the most right part functioning as scroll by default.

Hardware is all working properly, yast giving me some timeouts on the OSS and non-OSS repository but I assume these will be back to normal soon. Just installed the latest beta drivers from NVidia and it’s the first time KDE4 feels fast.

New default wallpaper looks pretty **** sexy and the network plasmoid looks promising, but it’s alpha quality instead of beta imo :P. Can’t save my WPA-PSK making it completely useless not to mention it’s unreadable in any theme other than the default aya. Time to install compiz-fusion/emerald and sex things up a bit and I think I’ll be able to not reboot to vista anymore (depends on wether my now working wireless will also work with the WPA-enterprise enviroment at college).

Thank you openSUSE developers, beta 5 is looking good! And if that network plasmoid is working properly by the time 11.1 final is out I’d say it’s gonna be appriciated by a ton of people.

If you want to extend Beta 5 and have more plasmoids working, add:
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE%3A/KDE4%3A/Factory%3A/Desktop/openSUSE_Factory/
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Factory:/Extra-Apps/openSUSE_Factory/
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Community/openSUSE_Factory/
(those are supposed to be from the “stable” file tree)
There are many plasmoids in “Community” (that Susers have built for us) and have dependencies in the other two.

Stay away from KDE4 “unstable” ATM – there are a whole raft of dependency problems ATM.

Have fun:)
