If a bad sector becomes visible, that means the disk is on the way out, because modern disks have spare sectors which are automatically brought in by the onboard controller. If the onboard controller cannot correct the error by bringing in a spare sector, it’s out of spare sectors.
You can use programs like smartmontools to query the controller about how many spare sectors remain.
First thing first I would like to thank you all for your time and all posts. You’ve been most helpful. I’ll try to fix disc first or swap for new one (luckily laptop is still on guarantee). Cos I don’t have enough free time I won’t post anything for while.
I get the “Impossible to Resize Due to Inconsistent fs” on all windows 7 partitions. I have run the checkdsk, and there are no reported errors. If I was to guess, it’s related to the HP Preloaded OS, Tools, and Office partitions.
I’m hesitant to reload, since I have a nice, new, working laptop.
