Hi
The mime database is (as you put it) jeffed up probably I think there are tools that can sniff the file for mime types.
I have been working with the people at shared-mime-info and we have implemented a patch that is already available in Factory.
It is compatible with openSUSE 13.2.
There is also an update that will be available over the next few days for openSUSE 13.2 that includes a patch to fix the ISO associations.
Click on the link below to download the newly updated shared-mime-info-1.4x rpm package:http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/GNOME:/Factory/openSUSE_Factory/x86_64/shared-mime-info-1.4-57.3.x86_64.rpm
and Factory http://download.opensuse.org/factory/repo/oss/suse/
