I haven’t yet come across a screensaver. I’d like to have a hotcorner setup to activate a screensaver which would fade between random images from a folder I would provide.
I guess this isn’t included with KDE? What are some good options?

What is that setup saving your screen from?
I assume the best way to save your screen is to let it go sleeping or even switch it off.
I’m having a hard time understanding the attitudes I’m reading about from the opensuse / developers / kde communities.
Digital cameras, graphics programs, graphics cards, monitors, have all had dramatic improvement and cost reduction in the past decades. I have a beautiful pair of 23 inch monitors. I have an awesome collection of images I’ve collected over the years. Every once in a while, I like to look at my monitors and see beautiful images flowing in and out in a nice slideshow. I like having the option of having that happen when I have guests over as well.
Yet I’m under the distinct impression that this is somehow frowned upon, not approved of, or not understood. I am baffled by it. What part of pretty images do KDE / Opensuse people not like? Slideshows have been around since the 80’s. And yet there are no options for Plasma that have been created since the 90’s?
In Plasma 5 it is now called the screen locker…
Configure Desktop (System Settings) > Desktop Behaviour > Screen Locking > Wallpaper, there you change the ‘Wallpaper Type’ to ‘Slideshow’, and point it at the desired folder(s).

One more thing using either Yast or Konsole make sure to get xscreensaver-data-extra that one has the GLSlideshow for your pictures.

Not at all. curiously, screensavers today may be an habit from the times of CRT monitors when a static image would burn the phosphor - I remember seeing this in IBM dumb terminals at mainframe facilities, way before PCs became the norm. With CRTs you were advised to use a moving screensaver to avoid this, if you for some reason had to keep the monitor on, as even a relatively short period (like a few weeks or months) of showing a fixed image part of the time would permanently etch a ghost of it in the screen, which you could see even with the monitor turned off.
With LCD monitors this etching also happens, but it takes much longer - years, IME. But using screensavers, or not, is a question of personal preference. Actually I agree that blanking the lock screen and even switching it off if I’ll be away for some time is better (less heat output, lower power draw, less backlight wear, etc.), but it’s no big deal otherwise - I do like my bling (KDE rocks!), which is perfectly all right when you have the CPU and GPU for it - and what modern PC doesn’t?
