openSUSE 12.1 Gnome install on an iMac with usb Apple Optical Mouse. The scroll wheel works “up” but not “down”. All apps affected including Firefox and LibreOffice. Many other distros on same machine - no issue with scroll wheel.

hmmmm…(thinking out loud) i used to know where to go in the GUI (in
YaST) to see what kind of mouse the system thought it had detected, and
if i knew where that was today i would start there and suggest maybe you
just need to select a different mouse–hopefully the exact one which
is actually connected…but, i can’t seem to find where that is now, so:
compare the file /etc/x11/xorg.conf.d/11-mouse.conf on a working distro
with the same file on openSUSE 12.1 and note the differences…and edit
the openSUSE one as required…
now, it might be possible to copy that file from a working distro to
your openSUSE and it be like magic…then it again, that might not work
at all…so, keep a copy of the one which scrolls one way, at least
let us know how you get on…
