When I run the live disk the network manager is working and ever thing seems good.
The network manager seem to be missing after the install.
I have tried everything to start it but it fails.
How do I install the network manager?
Hi, welcome to these forums.
Let me guess, you’re on a desktop machine.
Some background:
openSUSE knows 2 ways of setting up networkconnections, " traditional (ifup) " and " networkmanager ". On desktop machines the first is the default, since the networkconnection will always be the same. On laptops (f.e.) the networkmanager is the default, since the connection will vary, depending on where you are. The result of this is that the networkmanagerwidget or applet will not show up on desktop machines.
Yes it is a desktop, I would like to get the wireless card running. Here is system that I’m running.

Start Yast - Network - Network settings.
In the General tab, you’ll see the choice options for " ifup " and networkmanager.
- If the machine does not move, leave it to ifup, then click the Overview tab. You’ll see two entries, one for the wired, one for the wireless network device. Clicking the wireless, then clicking Edit, will allow you to configure the connection.
- If you insist on using the networkmanager, switch it on in the General tab, reboot, login to the desktop and you should see the Networkmanager icon in the system tray area.
EDIT: in KDE you may have to activate the Networkmanager in the system tray’s settings. Right click in the system tray until you see an option for it’s settings. If the options in the systray settings are greyed out, unlock widgets first.
Yeah I had to mess around wqirth YAST too to get networkmanager to work, as my internet would not connect with ifup.
