I'm in Live CD, can't print via Samsung ML-1740...

Hello,

I’m on a T42 laptop with a Samsung ML-1740 attached on my USB port. I installed the printer with the tool and everything seemingly went okay. Won’t print, tho.

I read somewhere on fedora’s pages (prob the forum) that someone had a similar prob and it was a matter of loading foomatic, whatever that was, then retrying the load. It worked for them.

Anyone aware of this?? Or is this a simple fix? I used the recommended driver for ML-1740 listed in the GUI.

Thanks,
I have to reboot, I’ll try to get a printout from troubleshooting.

Kim

I wouldn’t really expect a live session to be very reliable for this. You could try CUPS
enter this in Firefox

http://localhost:631/

CUPS - Explained - openSUSE Forums

So you’re saying that if I loaded SUSE on my harddrive, the printer would probably install and print just fine? Should I take that chance?

That’s fine with me. I have also tried out openSolaris and had the same issue. I was beginning to wonder if Live CD just doesn’t cooperate (doesn’t start nec daemons; whatever…)

Thanks,
Kim

it may or NOT work.
Have a look here: HCL/Printers - openSUSE
and OpenPrinting database - Printer Listings

Kim;
More specifically check:
http://openprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=Samsung-ML-1740
It appears that this printer is well supported.
