im-config package not found?

I am trying to figure out why some compose characters do not work for me - for instance, I can do a pound sterling sign £ (“Compose l -”, but not a Euro sign <Compose E -", the fraction ½, but not 1/3, etc. After doing some searching, I found that the problem might be in different input methods. There apparently is a utility “im-config” to manage these, but Yast does not find it nor anything that seems related. How can I get this package? Or am I on the wrong track in getting the compose key to work right?

I’m using OpenSuSE 13.1, xterm and various apps running under fvwm2 window manager. As far as I remember, I didn’t do anything special with setup, just accepted default US English.

That seams to be an Ubuntu/Debian only app
you could try
https://software.opensuse.org/package/fcitx
that’s an application for complex cjk input methods but it should be comparable to Ubuntu’s app.
I think there are easier ways to insert certain symbols then installing a complex framework.

you could always download the im-config source and try and compile it, it might or it might not work under opensuse.
https://packages.debian.org/jessie/im-config
still that is a complex cjk framework not really needed for non-cjk systems

I wouldn’t be surprised if there are, but I’ve not been able to find anything else. Any suggestions? I don’t need really complex (I’m not writing in Chinese or Arabic). It’d just be nice to be able to put in Euro symbols and such.

Indeed, most of what I’ve found by searching seems to assume that I already know a lot more about compose symbols than I actually do, so even a pointer to “Compose for Dummies” would help…

I’ve never needed that function, found this with a google search
http://fsymbols.com/keyboard/linux/compose/

I found that too. But my problem is that I don’t get all of the compose characters in the table, for some reason. Even though they’re all in the system’s /usr/share/X11/locale/en_US.UTF-8/Compose file. E.g. I can get a copyright © symbol, but not trademark, yen ¥ but not Euro, etc.

openSUSE 13.1 and KDE here. I have no problem at all. My “compose key” is Shift-RightCtrl. The following characters when typed direct after it give (this done directly into this post, no copy/paste):
L- £
-L £
-l £
l- £
12 ½
13 ⅓
14 ¼
38 ⅜
e= €
=E €
etc.

I normaly use no xterm (but konsole), but I started one and it functions there also.
Maybe you using fvwm2 is of influence?

IIRC, the tables that belong to this feature are in /usr/share/X11/locale. As there are tables there for all sorts of locale, I am pretty sure I am using en_US.UTF-8.

Hope this helps.
