I'm asking anyone who's used KDE since1.0

The latest update for KDE 4 is in & there’s a new problem, but this not about that. I’m sure there’s a Suse user here that’s been using KDE at least since 2.0.
Now I’ve read that the same thing happening with kde4 happened with kde3 & that all was well starting with 3.2.
Is this the same way it went from KDE2 to KDE3 or even 1 to 2?
Do you guys think that KDE4 will really start to rock at 4.2?

Not able to answer about kde3 versions but i will say that kde4 is nearly there. Recently started using it exclusivity i.e. never have to start my kde3.
Version as per my sig. Still a few niggles but mostly i think it’s great. Read a lot on the net and they say that 4.2 will be mainstream

KDE3 → KDE4 was a more ambitious jump than anything previously released, but yes – 4.2 will be mainstream and a good transition point for anyone still on 3.x.

uh… yes… KDE changed RADICALLY from 1 to 2, 2 to 3.

Can’t say about 4.2… but my gut says no… it will
take more time.

To say RADICALLY then to say it will take more time, I take that to mean that 3 to 4 was A REALLY RADICAL change,in your opinion.
That makes me feel privileged to be a part of it Thank You cj!

Yes 4.1 has been a real ride too, I’ve been with it since 11.0 came out. So then 4.2 goes become mainstream & if it does take maybe 4.3 or 4.4 as cjcox thinks, those of us that were early adopters had all the fun!

Well I wrote the OP out of the frustration I had from the loss of the Desktop Configuration after having it for so long through
much worse. Cryovac you & cjcox have provided me with the encouragement I was hoping for, I’ll be clicking your reputation buttons right after I hit the submit button.
I also hope this thread will give encouragement to others!

Confident? I hope so. But I’m thinking it might take one or two more…
as in the past… before it gets to the point of being pretty solid.
I’m patient… and certainly went through all of the trials and tribulations
with v3.

Even the words “REALLY RADICAL” is too weak to describe the change
from v3 to v4. v4 is a VERY different animal. So yes… I would
say the jump from v3 to v4 is very major. And we haven’t seen
this large of a jump in the underlying architecture in a VERY
long time. Lots of things changed. Qt assumed roles that it
didn’t in the past… you’ve got the freedesktop.org work… etc.
It’s a lot of change.

But not unusual, but yes… we’re “early” adopters… but no different
than in the past, except we were all dying for the next release
in the past… not so much this time.

Patience is the word of the day. And realize that everyone wants things
to work. So while it make take a few turns to get v4 up to v3
functionality and stability… it’s going to (must) happen. Just wish
v3 was a real dog… would make the waiting more worthwhile (instead
of frustrating).

CJ,
Your last line in the prior post is very well said!

It is more than radical. To think it was even ported to winblows.
