Icon Grid in Desktop Folder (KDE 4.2)

Hi there,
I want to see more of the icon name in my desktop folder. But I can’t find a setting to change this. Is there a way to increase the horizontal grid space on the desktop folder view?
The hint to add to [DesktopIcons] GridXSpacing=50 in /user/.kde4/share/config/kdeglobals don’t work.

I am running KDE 4.2.4 Opensuse 11.1.

I adjusted my font types to Liberation like this:

Your are right with the font settings, caf4926 - thank you for this.
But in my case only partially - nevertheless I can see more of the icons name.
