Anyone here using the lastest download package of Icecat web browser? I have installed it in a local home directory and it works OK except it does not find my flash plugin. As far as I am aware it uses the same plugin directory as Firefox and in my case Firefox finds all my plugins but Icecat only finds the Icedtea plugin and ignores the flash one. Does anyone have any ideas about this please?
My guess is that Firefox uses the system’s flash plugin, icecat is looking in ~/.mozilla/plugins . Create a symlink to the flashplayer plugin in that folder and you may very well be in business.
Sorry should have made it clearer that Firefox is a local copy as well with the correct links in the plugins folder which works. As far as I was aware Icecat uses the ./mozilla/plugins folder, so since they should both use the same folder they should both see all the plugins, but that is not happening Icecat only sees the Icedtea plugin noth the flash one.
Well I seem to have sorted it but cannot explain why. I renamed the mozilla plugins folder and started Icecat, no plugins… next I quit Icecat and renamed the folder back to plugins again… started Icecat and now it finds ALL the plugins >:) How or why I have no ideas but at least its working now.
The story continues. It has stopped working again. Now when I run Icecat 38.5.2 and check what plugins are found it shows correctly the Icedtea one and a Shockwave flash plugin both of which are set to Always Activate. However when I go to Facebook and try to play a video it comes up with a message about updating flash player. Now the same plugin directory is used for Mozilla Firefox, running Firefox and trying to play the same Facebook video IT WORKS. I am at a loss to now or work out why! Can anyone please suggest how I might progress this?
I should have added that I have Leap on my laptop with the same browser and on that machine Icecat plays all the videos I throw at it - so this is even more puzzling!
