ICE1712 Capture Volume Too High

Hi there,

I’m trying to adjust my ICE1712 (M-Audio Audiophile 24/96 to be specific) sound card’s capture volume to be lower so that it doesn’t clip while capturing louder passages.

I have both envy24control 1.0.3 (And 0.60.0) and alsamixer as options, and I’m trying to capture using Audacity (Which is set to listen through ALSA, on my M-Audio 24/96)

When I open up alsamixer, and head over to “Capture” I see HW Multi and HW Multi 1 listed as Capture. I also see S/PDIF Multi and S/PDIF Multi 1 which are each muted, as I do not want them.

As for envy24control, I have a HW In 1 and HW In 2. These are the same controls as found in alsamixer, as when I change them in one of the programs, the other programs reflect the change.

However, upon lowering either one of these, and re-recording in audacity, I’m still seeing the VU Meter clip toward the 0dB side, as if I hadn’t changed any settings at all. It seems to either make no difference at all, or the most minute difference when recording in Audacity.

Any idea what I could be doing wrong?

Running:
OpenSUSE 11.3
KDE 4.6RC2
Audacity 1.3.12-beta

Thanks in advance!
