I want to install OpenSUSE 12.1 on a Windows computer, but more

Hello and happy new year to everyone on the forum.

My wife wants to use Windows 7 and she wants that it should be the default OS when GRUB starts. I mean, if she is not sitting by the computer, say in the kitchen, etc, she does not want OpenSUSE booting. She wants Windows to boot, she even does not want to press the down key to select Windows.

Is it possible? I failed to “endear” GNU/Linux to my wife, this is my fault. I sincerely hope that there is a solution to this. I need OpenSUSE at home to remotely connect a GNU/Linux machine in the workplace, etc.

Thank you for your interest.

Why openSUSE-11.2 ? It is no longer supported. In fact support for openSUSE-11.3 is also about to stop. IMHO you are better off with openSUSE-11.4 or 12.1.

Next wrt having MS-Windows boot as the default OS without any keys being pushed, yes of course that is possible. You need to make Windows the default GRUB selection.

BUT IMHO if your wife is that adverse to having GNU/Linux on a PC, then its a mistake to put GNU/Linux on the PC, even in a dual boot with Windows the default boot partition. Anything - even the slightest MS-Windows glitch, will be blamed by her on openSUSE, and nothing you say will convince her otherwise…

Yes, you can make any OS selection menu option in Grub the default. While you can make this selection during the installation, it might be better to do so after the install is complete. You would visit:

YaST (Enter root user password) / System / Bootloader and select the Windows entry with your mouse and then press the Set as Default button on the bottom right.

Thank You,

Hi
+1 oldcpu

If the system can boot from USB, they grab a faster 8GB usb key (OCZ is
what I have) and create a persistent live CD version and boot from
that…

Sorry for writing 11.2, I wanted to write 12.1, the last version. She is not very negative to GNU/Linux, but she does not want to use it.
Thank you.

It seems very easy. I will try asap. Thank you.
