I want the Atlantis desktop :-P

Hi!
I was looking at Youtube and saw some demonstration of desktop-enviromen. One demonstration was of an Ubuntu with something called Atlantic Desktop. It is an transparant 3D Cube with swimming fishes inside the cube and in the background.

I go into Comfiz-fusion web-page and there i could read that its not a Plugin, but a part of Atlantic Screensaver that come original with KDE4-Screensaver-extra, but in my OpenSUSE11.1 KDE4.22 i cant find this.

Anyone tried this?

You sure it is, I’m not using it but from the sounds of things you’re talking about 2 things here.

This is compiz and I would thought is in unsupported plugins.
It is an transparant 3D Cube with swimming fishes inside the cube

Moving fish in bg would be the kde4 screensaver, as for the 2 together without looking at the unsupported plugins not got a clue how.

First I would solve the cube I suspect you can open the screensaver and find atlantis screensaver certainly is listed in the default kde4 pkg.

Edit
As for 4.2 can’t comment perhaps its not quite made it or is being dropped.

Sorry to say, but the moving fishes is not listet under Screensavers. Transparant cube is fixed in Compiz-manager. I just want to replase the Gears with the moving fishes. It just look so cool

What you saw was nothing more than the compiz desktop cube that you can make transparant even without rotating it. There is also the Atlantis plugin which makes whales swim arround inside this cube. So now that you made it transparant you can see the whales at all times.

If you want fish in a fishtank swimming arround on your desktop while you work then all you need is an aquarium screensaver and the xwinwrap script. This script allows one to show movies or screensavers as desktop backgrounds.

Voilà, there is nothing you need to search for, everything is there on your pc, you only need to install compiz and the xwinwrap script from the compiz repository.

Exactly (although the recent Atlantis plugin seems to show smaller and real fish now):

kde4.2 atlantis screensaver - Google Search

This implies that the screensaver is there. Though adding Suse to it doesn’t show it but in 4.1.3 it should be found something like
/usr/share/kde4/services/ScreenSavers/atlantis.desktop

As here
Novell: openSUSE 11.1 for x86: kdeartwork4-screensaver

This tells you you need the screensaver to get the fish(heah you learn something new every day I never new they where the glxgears)

Plugins/Cube - Compiz Wiki

Then this talks about the screensaver which I don’t think you’ll find easily as it is in experimental not even unsupported, and may involve git compiling.

With out a link I’m using you eyes and interpretation of it. I have to agree with the earlier post combining the 2 sounds tricky.

Hi!
Yes i have this file, but it doesnt show up in the list over available screensavers. On Compiz-homepages they only mention Atlantis exist, but there is no description on how to get it to work. It look like an unofficial plugin from some sort of a GIT-source. This is something new for me and i really dont know that GIT is or how to deal with it.

I was hoping someone has allready feed the fish in the tank and could tell us how to make it work.
Well it really looks cool and i really wish i could get it to work :frowning:

Atlantis is in the unsupported the cube that is at least I’m 90% sure do you have unsupported plugins?

Perhaps Akoellh can confirm or deny where they got it from.

i m using intel c2d cpu t6400@2.00Ghz and with 4g ram ! i m using gnome 2.24.1!

My problem is :

  1. why my laptop so slow compare with suse 10.1(speed is really is and better than window vista) and suse 11.1(too slow when installing software and online)
  2. does suse 11.1 can’t indicating the battery lifetime(bcos the battery indicator just show 0%)!
  3. After i shut down the laptop just stop at a grey colour screen and cant shut down!
  4. the wifi signal also very poor compare with 10.1!

does any1 can help me on it !
thx for the help on this reply !

Hi zio900

Might want to start a new thread with a relevant title, perhaps also include you laptop model to.

It’s just sitting at the bottom of this thread it may not get seen by the people that can help.

You seem to have several problems you could keep them together but you may find it easier to manage if certain bits are separate i.e
1 2 perhaps applications forum
3 maybe the above or you have the laptop forum in hardware.
4 network/internet => wireless

Just think if you start your own thread/threads, you may get better help. More so if you give them some nice titles about the problems.

Hi,

First off, please don’t hijack other people’s posts especially when your problems don’t even come close to what the original post is about.

Secondly, You’ll want to start new threads for all of those in their appropriate forum locations so you’ll get a better chance of having them answered.

1 and 3 can go in the hardware section. 2 might possibly go there too, but it could also be put in the application section since you’re talking about the battery icon.

4 should go in the wireless section.

Please post these threads in their appropriate places and please don’t hijack other people’s threads. You’ll have a better chance of getting your questions answered

@ronnys

Yes, the Atlantis Cube effect is in the Unsupported packages of compiz-fusion. Just install that through Yast and you’ll have an option to use Cube Atlantis.

Good Luck,

Ian

hehe looks like neither you or I agree where…

Most of mine went for Apps as I thought, slow is bound to be beagle or ipv6

As for 4 we agreed

Haha it happens. I was just guestimating, as I’m a KDE user and just started playing around with Gnome in VirtualBox.

Follow FeatherMonkey’s advice and post those in the Application section. The wireless question goes in the Network/Internet section (at the top there’s a wireless subsection).

Good Luck,

Ian

thx for the advise !!!
cos i also new in this forum !!!
thx ^^

If anyone has any more questions about this, or wants a how-to from a nooblet perspective, let me know.
I just figured it out, among other things, and now my laptop, with hardware from 2006, has had its OS PIMPED.

Email me at coproc:\sbcgloba l .net.

Also, anyone know a way to install this theme on Windows XP pro?
